Well push me down and call me Bobby, the Herman Cain aka The Godfather is leading in a national poll of voters, beating out Mittens, The Ken Doll and The Wicked Witch of the West. What is the world coming to?

Public Policy Polling, a Democratic pollster based in Raleigh, North Carolina,  released a poll today of 484 likely Republican primary voters that showed businessman Herman Cain has taken a commanding lead over the competition in the field of 2012 presidential candidates.

Cain received the support of 30 percent of Republican voters. His nearest competition is former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney with 22 percent. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich comes in third with 15 percent and Texas Gov. Rick Perry is in fourth with 14 percent. The rest of the field of candidates polls in the low single digits.

Maybe republicans are atoning for all the ways they threw former republican candidates under the bus (poor Michael Steele) or they figure another black guy is the only one who can beat the current black guy. I have no idea, but Election 2012 is sure shaping up to be one hell of a good train wreck to watch.

Looks like the government watched too many of Vin Disel’s Fast and Furious movies. The Fast and Furious scandal has been brewing for over a year and recently claimed its first victim casualty in Kenneth Melson, the interim director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tabaco and Firearm, who was reassigned over the gun trafficking operation. A second victim casualty was the the US Attonery of Phoenix who stepped down since this was/is a Phoenix based scandal.

Now, some of you may be asking what is the Fast and Furious scandal. Well…Operation Fast and Furious was a gun running undercover bust being overseen by the federal government. The operation was designed to identify illegal gun runners by funneling firearms to them so they could be tracked as they were sold. However, the operation was seriously botched. Several thousand guns ended up in the hands of Mexican cartels and have been found at the scene of the shooting deaths of at least two U.S. border agents AND vast sums of federal money were used to accomplish this massive screw up. Needless to say the Obama Admin doesn’t want the shit to hit the fan with this little federal operation any more than it already has. There’s speculation that Attorney General Eric Holder’s head may be next on the chopping block, though I doubt it since he knows where all of the bodies are buried. The only was he goes down is if their is a taint that could possibly lead to the President and then he may be offered up as the sacrificial lamb similar to Oliver North, Ronnie Reagan and the Iran Contra affair.

But we’re not there yet. Not yet anyway. However with the election season really getting underway, this scandal story probably has a lot more legs than any arachnid on the planet.

So it’s blame the woman, or in this case the women time in this election season and the 2012 presidential campaign hasn’t even started yet. Darling of the right and Republican front runner (as much as there is one at this point) ended his presidential run before it begin because his wife and four daughters vetoed it:

But instead of an upbeat notification detailing kick-off plans, close Daniels allies were surprised to wake up Sunday morning to an email from the Indiana governor saying he would forgo a run. The lucky few – like conservative commentator George Will, a Daniels friend – got a personal call the day before.

Daniels’ message by voice and in writing was the same – his wife and their four grown daughters had veto power on a campaign, and they had exercised it. If anyone wondered about the depth of Cheri Daniels’s concerns about the prying eyes of the public, those questions were more than answered in a string of stories and columns focused on her and her husband around the time of her May 12 speech at an Indiana Republican Party dinner.

Earlier reports of their unorthodox relationship – Marriage. Divorce in 1993. Re-married in 1997. With his wife marrying another man in the intervening years and leaving the girls with their father during that – led to many question Cheri Daniels character and her ability as a mother, with many saying she abandoned her daughters. Apparently the scrutiny was too much:

“Now, because of her husband’s prominence in national politics, Cheri Daniels is facing harsh judgments,” wrote “On Parenting” blogger Janice D’Arcy in the Washington Post just last week, adding readers had used the word “abandoned” in the comments section in connection with the split and her kids.

The question, whispered about by Republican elites and fanned by operatives in some rival camps, was gaining such traction that Daniels himself sought to snuff out the whiff of bad parenting in a strong statement to the Indianapolis Star, delivered separately from the one in which he bowed out of the national race.

Those family concerns clearly weighed heavily on the Daniels clan, and ultimately won the day.

“I guess I had always hoped and believed they would find a way, that the governor and his family would find a way to accommodate this run,” close friend Tom Bell told POLITICO. “But I think that was wishful thinking of my part.”

It just shows how in modern day politics any hint of scandal can end a campaign before it begins. And since this is all very public knowledge, there would have been no way to hide this from probing public. Oh well, anther one bites the dust.

Not everyone was pleased about Senator Scott Brown’s revealing his childhood physical and sexual abuse on 60 minutes Sunday night. Here’s some of what he said:

“I wish I had said something 40 years ago when these events occurred, but I was scared and embarrassed … I want to be clear that the reason I write about these incidents in my book is not to settle any scores, but to let people know they can overcome the obstacles and hardships they face in life … If by opening up about what happened to me I’ve given others the courage to talk about their own abuse, or just comforted someone who felt alone, then I feel I’ve accomplished something important.”

Seem some are questioning his motives. One poster on the ABC New Blog says:

“I have a hard time believing this man. Why would he not pursue charges? Is he willing to allow these people to continue to be able to harm other children. We need to remember that old men too can harm children. If these people really exist then the need to be charged. Otherwise I think Brown is just looking for attention.”

Both the Globe and the Boston Herald question brown’s timing. From the Globe jen Vennochi writes:

“…how could Brown endorse Jeff Perry, the Republican congressional candidate, who, in 1991, allegedly stood by as a 14-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a fellow police officer?”

And from the Herald Peter Gelzinis writes:

“In a year when Scott Brown’s rise has become the stuff of legend, when many profiles have already been written, it’s curious that he waits until the eve of his national book tour to come forward and officially take his place among the community of sexual abuse victims.”

While I staunchly believe Brown has a right to detail his abuse in any way he sees necessary, however it’s not surprising that folk would call him on past positions that would seem to question his commitment to those who have been abused as well as his using his past abuse to sell books. In the end, I do beleive it takes a level of strength to admit to such a thing, particular as a man in politics no less even if there are ulterior motives.

CBS news correspondent Lara Logan was sexually assaulted while reporting in Egypt. And by a “happy” mob no less:

On Friday February 11, the day Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak stepped down, CBS correspondent Lara Logan was covering the jubilation in Tahrir Square for a 60 MINUTES story when she and her team and their security were surrounded by a dangerous element amidst the celebration. It was a mob of more than 200 people whipped into frenzy.

In the crush of the mob, she was separated from her crew. She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers. She reconnected with the CBS team, returned to her hotel and returned to the United States on the first flight the next morning. She is currently in the hospital recovering.

Once the violence against journalist escalated in Egypt I wondered how long it was going to be before there was a major sexual assault. And I’ve always wondered about Lara Logan since she is the epitome of Western beauty, young-ish, blond, slim, and how she managed or if she were worried about being sexually assaulted since she is often in some of the most volatile regions in the world.

We wish her speedy recovery.
